Additional Information This slide has been presented by Dr. Nasiibah Ramli at Plenary Session 2 (Online) at Seminar Kependudukan Negeri Johor 2026, July 27, 2026 at Johor Bharu, Johor, Malaysia.
Abstract The decline in birth and fertility rates in Malaysia has happened alongside the rapid development of reproductive technology. Innovations like IVF, ICSI, and egg freezing provide opportunities to address fertility issues, but they also raise questions about ethics, consent, lineage, and the legitimacy of children. This presentation looks at these developments from demographic, medical, shariah, and Malaysian family law perspectives. Johor's demographic transformation requires integrating reproductive innovations, protecting lineage, and supporting families to ensure community well-being in the digital era.
